The association of leprosy with pulmonary tuberculosis was seen in 20 cases during January 1972 to October 1977. Of these 20 cases, 15 were of lepromatous, 3 of dimorphous and 2 of tuberculoid leprosy. Maximum number of cases were from 3rd decade of life with male to female ratio of 3 : 1. Patients were suffering from the disease for a very long time (8 cases of lepromatous leprosy with duration of illness 10-15 years). The symptoms of leprosy seemed to have preceded to the symptoms of pulmonary tuberculosis. Duration of tuberculosis in most of them was within 6 months (55%). The predominent presenting symptom was cough with expectoration (100%) and fever (80%). Anaemia (75%) and crepitations (60%) were the presenting physical sign mainly. Radiologically bilateral extensive pulmonary lessons were seen in 14 cases (70%). Sputum for acid fast bacilli was positive in 80% of cases. The general condition and nutritional status was poor and death was resulted in 4 cases (3 of lepromatous and 1 of dimorphous leprosy).

Sixty five uncomplicated cases of psoriasis were subjected to standard and cortisone primed glucose tolerance test to study the association of of the disease with diabetes mellitus. The peak incidence of psoriasis was in early adulthood (26.1%). The c lesions were mainly as with micaceous, loosely adherent scales covering them (53.9%). Im-paired glucose tolerance test was detected in 19 (27.7%) cases, of whom )-5%, m4. 12.3% latent and 13.8% latentcfwmicaf Les. Elevep out of 18 cases with glucose tolerance had extensive cutaneous lesions ( B). Ten out of 18 cases had glucose tolerance curve with sharp rise followed first by lag phase and then decline phase with blood sugar remaining above fasting level. The incidence of diabetes in psoriasis was more in, persons above 40 years of age (35.7%).
RESUMO
Five cases of reaction in leprosy with filariasis have been presented to emphasise the coexistance of the two conditions in the areas endemic to filariasis and leprosy. One may modify the clinical features of the other. Necessity of recognising filariasis as an important precipitating factor for lepra reaction in tropical countries has been highlighted for proper management of rather protracted and resistant cases.

Sera collected from 65 patients having various types of leprosy and 20 healthy human beings were studied for the determination of total serum proteins, paper electrophoresis for protein types and albumin globulin ratios. Significant changes in protein equilibrium with the presence of hypoalbuminemia and increases in various globulin fractions (except beta globulin) were observed in patients having lepromatous and dimorphous leprosy. An abnormal protein band was also detected in 3 of 20 cases of lepromatous leprosy. The patients suffering from tuberculoid and polyneuritic leprosy did not show much protein disequilibrium except for mild rises in serum alpha-2 and reductions in serum beta globulins.
